Luchio Alvarez, Iconographer

Luchio Alvarez origionally from Santiago, Chile now living in Connemara  studied under  Ramos Poqui in England, the greek master Eva Vlavianos and later in Georgia and Cyprus with other well known masters.

His commissions include St. McCartan Cathedral, Monaghan, St. James Church Carlingford, St. Mary’s Church Drogheda and many others. For the Eucharistic Congress he wrote an Icon of St. Francis and St. Clare and an origional Icon of St. Clare for the Poor Clare Convent in Carlow.

Following a Triduum during Holy Week 2013, Fr. Bernard asked him to write an Icon for the Holy Name to coincide with our centenary celebrations in 2014. Shortly afterwards he received a call from Sr. Collette of the Poor Clare Convent in Galway with a similar request (coincidence or God incidence !)

Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence for those faithful who participate in  IHS devotion  and to the delight of the Poor Clare Nuns and Franciscan Friars in Ireland decreed that their celebrations will have the status of a jubilee year. Their website is
